Diversions

In some cases, existing services within the proposed site will need to be relocated. This may occur, for example, if the statutory utility retained a distribution sub-station within a building to be redeveloped or if an existing high voltage line crossed the site sterilising proposed development area. UPL investigates and reports in respect of existing rights for electricity, gas and water supply utilities and resolves any associated matters which may arise.

In some cases this may entail obtaining quotations for the removal of the infrastructure, placing the orders for this work and minimising any associated premium charges incurred. In cases where the utility does not have sufficient rights for their apparatus, UPL would instigate proceedings for the utility to remove their equipment at their own cost. We have many examples of success where costs associated with diversions have been significantly reduced or completely removed.

In addition, UPL manages the process of either protecting existing utilities in situ, or arranging diversion or lowering of existing utilities in public highways, where affected by new access or traffic arrangements under the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) code of practice. Our focus is to ensure utilities are only diverted where necessary, to the appropriate cost and timescale.
